Conservation Partnerships

Protecting Habitats & Ecosystems

Our partnerships with organizations around the world aid in the conservation of butterfly habitats and coral reef ecosystems!

Costa Rica Entomological Supply

Rodrigo Chavez of Costa Rica Entomological Supply transfers butterfly larvae to a new host plant.

We receive 800 to 1,200 butterfly pupae every month from butterfly farmers around the world.  Costa Rica Entomological Supply (CRES) sends 300 of those pupae each month. This butterfly farm has provided butterfly pupae to butterfly conservatories worldwide for over 30 years. Butterfly farms provide alternative forms of income in rural areas, where farmers grow native plants and do not cause ecological destruction. In addition, CRES leads the way in conservation by investing its profits into protecting rainforests and reforesting projects.

Coral Restoration Foundation

The Coral Restoration Foundation grows coral nurseries in the Florida Keys.

The Coral Restoration Foundation grows coral nurseries in the Florida Keys.

The Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF) is dedicated to creating offshore nurseries and restoration programs for threatened coral species. Tens of thousands of corals are grown and maintained in multiple offshore nurseries. After a year in the nursery, corals are outplanted to a degraded reef. Due to limited space and resources, CRF partners with public aquariums across the nation to grow the Caribbean staghorn corals. The Marine Cove at the Butterfly House has been chosen to partner with the CRF. A specialized exhibit in the Marine Cove displays the Caribbean staghorn corals from the CRF, along with other Caribbean corals.

Save Our Monarchs

Save Our Monarchs is dedicated to saving the embattled Monarch Butterflies.

Save Our Monarchs is dedicated to saving the embattled Monarch Butterflies.

The plight of the Monarch butterfly gets more difficult each year, with habitat loss resulting in significant decreases in the Monarch population.  We work with Save Our Monarchs to encourage everyone to help the Monarchs by growing butterfly gardens in our back yards and patios.  Butterflies need nectar and host plants to feed the adults as well as their offspring.  By planting milkweed, you will attract Monarchs to lay their eggs, and be able to witness the incredible butterfly life cycle in your own garden!  Save Our Monarchs is a great resource for milkweed seeds to get started.
